Wire @ Rough Trade East (Record Store Day) 18.04.2015

1. O desafio dos Wire em dia de abertura do Record Store Day na Rough Trade the East London foi convencer o público a dançar de forma ridícula. O prémio seria um precioso vinil de teste do novo álbum, devidamente autografado. Três tipos chegaram-se à frente e pelo menos dois deles eram umas valentes peças. Ganhou o careca vestido de ciclista.
2. O novo álbum Wire ainda não estava à venda na loja porque a produção es tinha atrasado na fábrica. Não é de admirar. Já é mais do que sabido de que as velhas máquinas não conseguem dar vazão a este ressurgimento do vinil. 
3. Harpooned, a última música do novo disco foi também a última música do curto set de cerca de 30 minutos. Fiquei com um zumbido nos ouvidos durante dois dias.
4. Pink Flag (1977), Chairs Missing (1978), 154 (1979) é provavelmente a melhor trilogia da época de transição punk/pós-punk.
5. Depois de uma trilogia 5 estrelas, os Wire despareceram para um regresso mais electrónico em meados dos anos 80. Chegaram ao cúmulo de contratarem uma banda de covers, os The Ex-Lion Tamers, que tocavam músicas dos Wire dos primeiro álbuns, enquanto eles apenas tocavam músicas de The Ideal Copy (1987) e A Bell Is a Cup (1988),
6. O baterista Robert Gotobed deixou a banda em 1990 e eles retiraram uma letra do nome da banda passando a chamar-se "Wir".

Carla Bozulich + Don The Tiger @ Cafe Oto 19.4.2015

1. A Carla Bozulich anda em tour com os Godpeed You Black Emperor (concerto na segunda em Londres) e ontem foi tocar ao Café Oto, acompanhada por um estiloso espanhol Don The Tiger. Gravei o concerto. 
2. Ao ouvir o mais recente disco, Boy, dá para perceber o que nos espera: negritude sónica, introspecção confessional, aura de murder ballad. Drowned To The Light, terceira música, tem tudo isso. Acrescente-se ainda uma melodia fatídica, uma voz tão gutural quanto sensual e uma guitarra quase toda distorção e ruídos. Assim temos também uma versão ainda mais crua de Gonna Stop Killing.  Boy é um disco ímpar. As poucas cópias que estavam à venda no Café Oto esgotaram (Carla Bozulich perdeu a caixa do merchandising em França, numa cidade que ela não consegue pronunciar o nome).
3. “If Boy emerged from the oeuvre of a broadsheet-friendly icon such as Nick Cave, Patti Smith or Tom Waits it would be lauded as an uncompromising work of genius”. Entrelinhas, pode-se ver Carla Bozulich como um cruzamento de Nick Cave com Patti Smith e mais outra coisa qualquer.  
4. Carla Bozulich gravou uma versão de Pissing, original dos Low, no disco Evangelista de 2006.
5. Em 2003 fez um remake do disco Red Headed Stranger de Willie Nelson. Três das músicas são também cantadas pelo carismático músico country, sendo uma delas Can I Sleep In Your Arms. Alan Sparhawk, dos Low, conhece o álbum de fio a pavio. 
6. Os álbuns a solo mais recentes, assim como três álbuns da banda Evangelista, foram lançados pela Constellation Records e podem ser ouvidos na íntegra no website da editora.
7. O Don The Tiger alterna entre uma guitarra jaguar em subtilezas e sons electrónicos obscuros. O estilo é parecido com Rowland S. Howard - o disco a solo Varadero pode ser ouvido aqui.
8. Carla Bozulich foi/é também vocalista dos Geraldine Fibbers, Scarnella e Ethyl Meatplow.
9. Duas versões interessantes: On The Nickel (Tom Waits), Masters of War (Bob Dylan) com Scott Amendola Band
